ORC FALL 2019 Week FOUR: Wallpaper + More Paint!

Hello!! It’s week 4 of the One Room Challenge and I AM SO NOT READY FOR IT! I had to take a pause from working on it this past weekend because my friends got engaged at my house! (wahoooo! but really- it’s ORC season, you couldn’t have waited another month?! JKkkk)

I did make a lot of progress with wallpapering the powder room though. This is the first time I’ve tried using wallpaper. I don’t know what I expected… but I don’t think I expected it to be so hard!! I seriously broke a sweat! It’s like trying to wrap the world’s most awkwardly shaped Christmas present. I’ve run into some issues with air bubbles (see photo below), but I was able to fix most of them by using an exacto knife to make a little slice and then pushing the air out.

I won’t lie though… after seeing these air bubbles and creases during my wallpapering session, my inner dialogue definitely went something like this:

”WTF have I done?!!!”
”Omg what was I thinking… I’ve never put wallpaper up before!!”
”Why am I doing this to myself!!!”
”I hope professional wallpaper hangers get paid A LOT!”

Followed by a more positive inner dialogue:

“It’s OK, it always looks worse before it looks better!”
”You don’t get anywhere by not taking chances!!”
”This angle is really hard to photograph, maybe the creases won’t even show up in photos?!”

Lol I can’t be the only one who starts to question everything halfway into a DIY home project, right?!

I also started painting the tiles gray. I’m using this Porch & Floor Enamel from Sherwin Williams in Gray (on top of the primer I already put down). We already had this product because I had planned on painting on the tile in our other bathroom a while ago, but never did. I decided on this product because we would love to eventually take the tile up in these spaces, as well as in the kitchen… and I figured using an epoxy on top of regular paint would make removal more difficult (aka more expensive). Since this paint is made to go on floors, I’m hoping it will be able to hold up to some light foot traffic without having to put any type of seal on top.

Lastly, I’ve been starting to think about the smaller details of how I want to finish these spaces. I found a really pretty framed butterfly print at Hobby Lobby to go over the toilet, and I’d love to find a smaller piece of art to hang above it. (The art in my mock up isn’t what I bought, I wasn’t able to find it online)

There will also be enough room to put a small rug, and I think a vintage rug would look beautiful here! I’ll be posting these two options in my Instagram stories and asking for help on deciding if I should go with the more bold one OR the more muted one. SO PLEASEEE head over there and help me pick!!

I’m picking up the sink this weekend… and I have ZERO plans and no proposals!! So I promise next week’s post will have a ton more progress photos!!
