ORC Fall 2019 Week TWO: Painting ALL Of The Things!!

Hello and welcome to week 2 of the One Room Challenge!! Last week I showed you my plans for my laundry and powder room, plus some before photos (click here if you missed it)! This week I’m showing you my progress so far, as well as a couple of mock ups for how I’m hoping these spaces will turn out!

In my week 1 post, I included my mood board… but I wanted to show you how I plan to put those pieces together. I have two ideas for the laundry room that I’m still trying to decide on:

OPTION 1

Option 1 has two long open shelves, and then a shorter shelf that I’m hoping to design to cover up the hook ups. I want to create some sort of shelf that hides the plugs, but still allows easy access to them just in case. I haven’t decided exactly how I plan to accomplish this, but I’m thinking about some sort of large hinge.

OPTION 2

Option 2 has just one long open shelf plus the shelf over the laundry hookups. This would allow space to add a bar for hanging any clothes that can’t go in the dryer (currently I drape them over any open space I can find). This option also has a towel bar attached to the utility sink, but I could also add that to option 1. Both options have our laundry detergent in a glass dispenser, but honestly I’m not sure I can justify getting one of those… I picture it turning into a dripping, sticky mess… all for the sake of photos lol. I’m hoping to find a clear dispenser that easily pours out from the top. Also.. side note— does anyone ever actually use the measuring cup that comes with detergent?? I recently found out that my husband does… I thought everyone just guestimated how much to use?! Haha.

Moving on from the laundry room… here is how I’m picturing our powder room:

POWDER ROOM

I’m only planning to use the floral wallpaper on the laundry room ceiling, but I wanted to put it next to my powder room design so you can easily see how the rooms will flow together. I bought the IKEA Fullen sink cabinet - at $21, I couldn’t pass it up! I’m planning to paint it a shade of green and add some modern knobs to it. I’m also going to spray paint the legs (most likely black). My plan is to buy the Talleviken sink from IKEA… I just want to take a stab at painting the cabinet first to make sure it turns out right!

PROGRESS SO FAR

WELL… sadly I don’t have much to report on my progress for the past week. I mostly just painted a bunch of things (hence the post title). I painted all 3 doors a color called “Creamy Mushroom” by Behr. On one of the doors, I also swapped out the door knob for my new Emtek knob. The knob from Emtek is SO beautiful and it’s easy to tell how much better the quality is. It’s definitely the fanciest door knob I’ve ever seen! I also seriously love the rectangle rosette… little touches like that make me SO happy!!

I spray painted the legs of the utility sink black and used the same color color for the pipes on it. To do the pipes, I just carefully sprayed some of the paint onto a paper plate and used a foam brush to it on. The coat of paint made a huge difference! I wish we could change the plumbing so that the faucet wasn’t attached to the lines for the washing machine, but that’s currently VERY low on our list of projects.

I also started painting the floor tiles with primer (using this product). I can’t complete that until we’re ready to remove the current powder room sink though. The replacement sink is not as deep as the current one, so more of the floor is going to show.

AND finally, I painted a coat of primer onto the IKEA sink cabinet. I’m waiting to put it together until after it’s painted - I figured I’d be able to do a better job this way.

It’s hard to capture the true color of the door- but it’s the perfect taupey-beigey-slight hint of pinkish shade!!

Progress on priming the floor tiles! (don’t mind my son’s sock on the floor lol)

That’s all I have to share for this week! This weekend I’m planning to remove the sink and vanity in the powder room so I can finish priming the floor tiles. It will also make it easier for me to wallpaper that area.

Make sure you’re following me on Instagram for a behind the scenes look at any progress I make!

Thank you SO much to my sponsors for this season’s challenge!!
