CREATING OUR PERFECT CHRISTMAS CARD + FAMILY PHOTO TIPS

I have teamed back up with Basic Invite to create our 2018 Christmas card! I am so excited how it turned out- it truly reflects our style perfectly! It’s simple, modern, and festive! Basic Invite has over 500 different holiday card designs, so you’re sure to find one that’s perfect for you! PLUS right now they’re offering 30% off all holiday card purchases with the code holi30!!

Here is what our finished design looks like:

I chose this watercolor design in a classic red color. I love that the design lets our photo be the star. One of the things I love most about Basic Invite is that you can customize almost every part of the cards- there are 180 different color options to choose from! The original version of this card only had the family name + “Christmas 2018” at the bottom. I decided I wanted to not only change the text, but also add a third line so I could include our names. I chose rounded corners and went with the “Luxe Velvet” paper (it is seriously SO soft!!). For the back of the card, I picked a solid color (matching the red on the front). I really love the clean, modern feel of how they turned out.
I’m also SUPER excited to share that it was FREE to have the return and guest addresses printed on the envelopes! It was SO nice to just have to stick a stamp on the envelopes and send them out! And one more thing about the envelopes — they’re all peel and seal!! NO LICKING NECESSARY! I’m a huge fan of anything that saves me time!!

Here are a few of many other designs they offer that I LOVE!

Now here are a few tips to ensure that you love your family photo! These are applicable whether you’re taking your photo yourself (like we did) or hiring a professional!

1. OUTFITS: Instead of going for the all matching look- try keeping outfits different, but in the same color scheme. Be mindful of patterns too, you don’t want two different patterns competing. For example, in our photo I’m wearing a plaid shirt- so my son and husband are both wearing solid colored shirts. My husband is wearing a gray sweater and my son is wearing navy blue- & both of those colors can be found in my plaid shirt.

2. BACKGROUND: Whether you’re inside or outside- make sure whatever is in the background of your photo isn’t too busy. We did ours inside and I love that our neutral interior is easy on the eye in photos. We do have a green countdown calendar hanging on a wall behind us that I had to edit out (scroll down to see). Sometimes you won’t notice little details like that until after you’ve taken your picture. It’s not a huge deal, but I think the photo just looks cleaner without it. Luckily, there are so many great, easy options available for editing!

3. POSING: We are all posing and looking at the camera in our photo, because we were in a rush and we surprisingly got this shot after only 3 attempts! But I love a good candid shot! You don’t always have to be posed and smiling at the camera, some of the best shots I’ve seen are where families are just having fun and in their element!
