Why I Started an Etsy Shop (MeredithLynnDesigns)

I decided to open my Etsy shop about two months ago, after getting plenty of encouragement from my family and friends.  I’ve been learning as I go, and having a lot of fun!

I’ve always loved painting and drawing; you can always find me creating something for our home or painting pictures just for fun for our friends.  Anytime I need an invitation for an event, I always end up creating my own because I can never seem to find exactly what I’m looking for – I even created our wedding invitations 3 years ago!

After I made Nathan’s first birthday party invitation, I really got into drawing new designs on my computer and decided to see if anyone would be interested in them.  I posted a couple examples of my designs in a group on one of my apps for moms.  The group was for moms who had babies in August 2017, so I knew they’d be looking for first birthday party invitations soon.  I offered free custom designs, and really was only expecting maybe 5-10 responses… I ended up getting over 50!  From that experience, I knew there was a place for my designs.  Hearing from these other moms also gave me an idea of what types of themes people were looking for.

What I really love about designing invitations is drawing my own art.  So it only seemed natural to start creating printable wall art.  Currently most of my designs are specifically for children’s rooms and nurseries, but I plan to start thinking of ideas for other rooms in the home.

I will only create and list something that I myself would hang in my home, and my drawings are heavily influenced by my personal interior décor style.  I definitely gravitate toward more simple designs, with a light & airy feel.  This style is hard to find in children’s wall art – which seems to be dominated by loud, primary colors.
